Healthy friendships don't just happen.

They are built.

At The Lightbulb Journals, we shine a light on the friendship skills most children are expected to figure out on their own—so they don't have to navigate relationships in the dark.

We spend years preparing our children for school...

We teach them to read.

We cheer them on in sports.

We remind them to be kind.

But one of the biggest influences on their confidence, happiness, and future relationships is something many children are simply expected to "figure out."

Friendship.

Kindness is just the beginning.

Healthy friendships are built on skills like...

✓ Knowing when, and how, to say "no."

✓ Balancing kindness with self-respect.

✓ Recognizing healthy and unhealthy friendships feel like.

✓ Staying true to yourself instead of changing to fit in.

✓ Repairing mistakes and rebuilding trust.

✓ Helping others feel genuinely seen, valued, and important.

These aren't just skills that help children make friends.

They're the skills that help them build healthy relationships for the rest of their lives.

These skills don't simply develop with age.

If they did, healthy relationships wouldn't be something so many adults still struggle with.

Like reading, teamwork, or problem-solving, relationship skills deserve to be intentionally taught, practiced, and talked about.

Friendship will teach our children many lessons.

My hope is they don't have to learn every one of them the hard way.

That's why I created Be a Magnet.

A different way to teach friendship.

Children don't become good friends by memorizing rules.

They become good friends by seeing healthy friendships, thinking about them, and discovering why they work.

That's why Be a Magnet doesn't simply tell children how to be a good friend.

Instead, they'll step into realistic friendship situations alongside a cast of memorable characters who face the same kinds of challenges they'll experience in their own lives.

Together, we'll pause and ask questions like...

What happened?

What did you notice?

Why do you think they made that choice?

How did that make the other person feel?

What could they try differently next time?

Instead of handing children the answers, we help them discover the patterns behind healthy friendships for themselves.

Because children are far more likely to use a lesson they've discovered than one they've simply been told.

When those same moments show up in their own lives, they won't be hearing the lesson for the first time.

They'll recognize it.

Why I Created Be a Magnet

Working with more than 10,000 kids sparked a deeper curiosity in me.

As a professional nanny, teacher, coach, online educator, and mom of four, I've had the privilege of watching children learn, grow, navigate friendships, and overcome challenges in so many different environments.

The more I taught, the more I realized that healthy friendships aren't built on one big lesson—they're built on dozens of small, often invisible skills that many children are simply expected to figure out on their own.

That realization led me to spend years exploring the research behind child development, social-emotional learning, confidence, communication, and healthy relationships, always asking the same question:

How do we take these invisible friendship skills and teach them in a way children can actually understand, remember, and enjoy?

The answer became Be a Magnet.

This isn't a course I created behind a computer and hoped kids would enjoy.

Every lesson, character, discussion, and activity has been taught, tested, refined, and reimagined through years of live classes with thousands of children. I've seen what captures their attention, what sparks meaningful conversations, and what helps these lessons stick long after class is over.

Today, Be a Magnet brings together everything I've learned—combining years of experience, evidence-based research, and thousands of real conversations with kids into one course designed to help children build the friendship skills they'll carry with them for a lifetime.

The same words keep showing up...

Different families. Different children. Different parts of the world.

Yet the same words appear again and again.

Fun. Engaging. Confidence. Real-life skills.

The reviews below are from families who joined my live classes. The same teaching philosophy, stories, and lessons became the foundation for Be a Magnet.

"This class is gold. My daughter loves it, she is always eager to attend. This class teaches essential social skills and emotional EQ... it's exactly what they need."

And here’s where most advice falls short…

Most people think boundaries are about speaking up.

But that’s only part of it.

Boundaries aren’t just about speaking up—

they’re about knowing you control what happens next

when your rules aren’t respected.

Because we can’t control other people—

but we can take action and do something

to stay safe, comfortable, and respected.

This is the part most kids are never taught.

There are a lot of people teaching boundaries.

Very few are built from real experience working with kids.

This isn’t theory.

It’s based on thousands of real interactions,

parent feedback,
and seeing exactly where kids get stuck.

This is the exact moment I see kids struggle most—
and the part we focus on inside this course.

This course teaches what actually works in real life.

This isn’t about memorizing what to say.

It’s about learning what to DO next.

Inside, your child will learn how to:

  • speak up clearly

  • understand their own rules

  • recognize when something crosses the line

  • take action when someone doesn’t listen

  • stand firm—even when it’s uncomfortable

So they don’t just say it…

they actually know how to follow through.

And it’s built to be simple.

Short, engaging videos for your child

Simple, clear guidance for you

No long lessons.

No guessing what to say.

No overwhelm.

Press play— and I’ll walk your child through it step by step.

Made for your child—right where they are.

Each lesson includes two versions:

Ages 4–7

Ages 8–12

So your child is learning in a way that actually connects with them.

This isn’t a one-time lesson your child outgrows.

It’s a foundation.

A skill they’ll use at 5… at 10…

and even into their teen years.

Start with the version that fits your child now— and come back to it as they grow.

If you’re a “just give me the plan—I’ve got this” parent… perfect.

And if you’re like “wait… I might need help when this actually happens in real life”— you’ll have support there too.

Inside a private space, you’ll be able to:

  • ask questions

  • learn from real situations

  • connect with other parents navigating this

       right alongside you

So you don’t have to figure it out on your own.

Inside this course, your child won’t just learn what boundaries are—

they’ll feel empowered to do the hard thing, hold them, and follow through with confidence.

You’re not just giving your child something important—

you might find yourself using it too.

This is the skill most kids aren’t taught— and the one that changes everything.

If you want your child to:

  • speak up with confidence

  • stand firm when it matters

  • build healthy, respectful friendships

This is where it starts.
